Based on Mahler
Based on Mahler is a photographic system developed from the structural logic of Gustav Mahler’s symphonic compositions. Rather than responding to narrative, emotion, or biography, the work adopts Mahler’s method of accumulation and long-form construction as an organizing principle, using color, density, and scale as its core elements.
Although presented as a single monumental image, the work unfolds through internal shifts within a fixed framework. Compression and expansion, restraint and intensity, coexist across the surface, requiring sustained viewing rather than immediate recognition. What emerges is not an image of music, but a system in which time, scale, and perception become the subject.
